Meet The Team

Founded by John Wilson with inspiration from Simon Palmer in the spring of 2014 after their first SUP board meeting during an epic paddle board adventure from the centre of the Lake District to the Irish Sea. Lake District Paddle Boarding was born and SUP arrived in the Lake District. We now have dedicated team of friendly, welcoming and fully qualified SUP instructors, so if it’s your first time and you want to be in safe hands say hello to the team.

We are passionate about introducing more people to this amazing sport and have been pioneering the use of SUP for river running and long distance touring in the North of England as well as getting out on the Surf. If you haven’t tried it yet or want to know more drop us a line.

John Wilson

Managed by John Wilson, Lake District Paddle Boarding is part of Active8events (UK) Ltd, who have been delivering high energy adventure events within the Lake District for the last 25 years. John is married with two children and when he’s not working his main interests are: rock climbing, cycling, snowboarding, stand up Paddle Boarding obviously! and fly fishing. When he’s not helping sort out your visit to the Lakes he’s planning his next Stand Up Paddleboard adventure. John Lives in Keswick and when he’s not answering the phone or responding to emails, he’s out paddle boarding on Derwentwater.

You’ll know when you’ve met BO. Born in Carlisle. Cumbria just wasn’t big enough for him, he has climbed, paddled, dived, surfed and latterly kite surfed his way round the globe. He now splits his time between guiding in the Himalaya, building climbing walls in Singapore, kite surfing in Tariffa or Brazil and when he’s home in the Lakes he’s out on his SUP board steaming down the lake. The king of understatement, it’s always a pleasure to sit back and listen to one of Bo’s stories. Bo lives in the North lakes and runs our Stand Up Paddleboarding River Tours (SUPfari’s) as well as SUP intro lessons on Derwentwater.

Doug Jardine

Doug joined the Lake District paddle boarding team in the Spring of 2017, having just arrived back from teaching SUP in the Persian gulf, he soon adapted to the warm waters of the Lake District. Doug brings a bit of youth and Instagram to the team, when he’s not paddling he’s Climbing or Mountain biking. If your looking to push your paddling to the next level then Doug’s your man. Doug is based in Ambleside and runs our Windermere and Coniston Stand Up Paddleboarding lessons and Tours.

Mick Stockdale

Mick is the only true monkey hanger on the team! His greatest achievement in life is to still have it! Mick has lived in Keswick as long as any of us can remember, a paddling and rock climbing addict with his particular passion being the remote and highly adventurous climbs on the far Northern sea stacks and cliffs. Where the combined danger of  big seas, loose rock, aggressive sea birds and ledges running with fulmar vomit get him going. As a respite from this kind of thrill seeking Mick is a regular on the beaches of Portugal where the combination of cheap flights and big Atlantic swells give him his winter Fix of fun. Mick is one of our lead instructors for Windermere and Coniston paddle board lessons.

Simon Palmer

Palmer is quite simply awesome, brought up in South Africa, a stone’s throw from the beach, a true gentleman, true surfer and one of the nicest chaps you’re likely to meet. Described as “the coolest person I’ve ever met” by young Sam Guerrero. Simon runs SUP Adventures on the East coast, so if you’ve learnt to board and want to SUP the Saltburn surf then Palmer’s your man. When he’s not Stand Up Paddle surfing at Saltburn he’s SUP surfing somewhere else.

Joe Pester

Joe is the only celebrity look alike on the SUP instructor team he is available for weddings, bar mitzvah’s and funerals. Not only does he have an uncanny resemblance of Keith Lemon he’s also one of Cumbria’s only reality TV stars! Joe spends his winter in Austria or Japan as a Ski instructor and summers in the English Lakes, sailing, partying and of course paddle boarding. SUP Joe.

Dan Fawkes

Fresh from the RAF “Born in the North East of England, made by Stand Up paddle Surfing!” Dan is a bit of a legend. He climbs, rides, runs, paddles and above all he’s a role model Dad, just ask anyone who came to SUP FEST 2017. Dan lives in the North East but is a frequent guest instructor on our Windermere and Coniston Stand Up paddle board lessons.
