What is paddle boarding?

Stand up paddle boarding or SUP is now one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. The boards look like surf boards and are paddled using a single blade paddle from a standing position. The simplicity and versatility of SUP means they can be ridden on lakes, river and the sea. It’s easy to learn and great fun as well as being an excellent core muscle workout.

Is all the equipment provided?

Yes, when you book with lake District Paddle Boarding you will get a SUP board, leash, paddle and Buoyancy aid. Wet suits are also provided if required at a cost of £5 pp. We do recommend you bring a drink which can be taken on the trip in dry bags we provide.

What should I wear?

In summer shorts and a T shirt are fine for an introductory session, although you can hire a wet suit if you prefer. We advise all participants to wear old trainers of watershoes as the lake shore is rocky in places

For poor weather or winter riding we suggest a wet suit as standard.

Don’t forget to pack dry clothes and a dry shoes as well as a towel.

We run a totally mobile paddle boarding operation and run sessions and river tours at a number of different venues including Derwent water, Coniston Water and Windermere.

Our Paddle board River Tours “SUPfari’s all take place in the Borrowdale Valley and river Derwent.

Will I need to be able to swim?

Being able to swim is not essential as you will be wearing a buoyancy aid and attached to your board via the board leash.
